Have you found it difficult to find out how much booking a recording session a studio will
cost?
Why are so few studios publishing their rates and instead ask you to contact them via
email or phone call?
At Pughouse Studios we believe that budgeting your session time should be a clear, transparent and predictable process.
No hidden costs. No surprises.
When choosing a studio finding the right fit is more important than rates.
A good way to do your research is to ask friends and colleagues about their experiences and get recommendations.
Once you have arrived at a shortlist get in touch with the studio. You will often get a feel about the place from a chat or, even better, a visit.
Why don't we offer half day, full day or weekly rates?
Recording and mixing music is a creative process and it is difficult to squeeze this it into a tightly predetermined schedule. You should always allow for some flexibility in your schedule and budget, if possible.
It is not unusual for a project to need a little more time. Those additional hours are often well worth it - redoing a solo, a vocal take, adding an overdub, tweaking the mix a little more, etc. After all, the recorded tracks will be there forever and for all to hear.
What if you are not able to record for 8 hours straight ?
For example you are a vocalist and singing for 8 hours straight is not a good idea? Or maybe your band can only record after hours or on the weekend because of other commitments?
What if you booked two 8 hour days, but everyone is tired after 6 hours of intense focus and it'd be better to continue recording the next day?
You should not be penalised for not booking a full day. It often necessarily a good idea to record or mix for 8 or more hours. Shorter days can be more productive.
What happens if...
...you finished recording earlier than you thought? Can you use the time for mixing? What happens if the rate for mixing is different?
...you need a few more hours to finish the recording or mix? What will the hourly rate be or do you have to book another half day?
